Chris Salmon Fishing

During the second half of the rafting weekend, Chris went fishing with a work friend. They went down the Copper River to a tributary river, the Klutina, to catch Red Salmon. They got to do some rafting themselves to get to the right spot.




The interesting part of this trip was the way they had to catch the fish. Since the Salmon are on their way to spawn, they are not eating so using bait or flies doesn't work. You have to cast out, allow your line to float until it is perpendicular to the shore, then you yank it in. The goal is to snag a fish on the outer side of its mouth. The trick is getting your line at the right level to catch a fish and not the river floor.
