Spring Planting

Chris's favorite thing about Alaska is the VERY long summer days. As of today, June 19th (Happy birthday Michael), the sun sets at 1 am and rises at 3 am. But even though the sun does set and rise, there is so much light in between that it never actually gets dark. Our days have been near total light since May and will continue until August. The longest day of the year is the Summer Solstice which is this Sunday and then we will slowly get dark again until the Winter Solstice.

Because of all this light, Chris's routine consists of coming home, saying hello to the fam for a bit, then almost immediately going outside for yard work (usually accompanied by Grace). He comes in for dinner, helps to put the kids to bed, and goes outside for more yard work until around 10:30 or 11 that night. He then cleans up, gets his ice cream, and settles in bed to watch Conan O'Brien, the Daily Show and/or the Colbert Report (He usually falls asleep somewhere in there and I wake him so he'll brush his teeth and officially go to bed.) It is cute what a man of routine he is but I do sometimes get jealous of the yard. Chris will remind me however that of all the hobbies he could have, at least this one has the benefit of being beautiful to look at, and most importantly, it is a hobby that keeps him at home.

Grace LOVES being outside with him, and Chris has taken the opportunity to pass on his love of yard work. He has been showing her how to plant flowers and he's involved her in his projects (which are numerous).

Planting Marigolds to beautify our well.

Yucky Fingers!!

Our back porch flowers.

The flower box Chris built in the back.

Pretty hanging plant.

Kyle spots me taking pictures. (This was in May when he couldn't do his speedy Army crawl yet.)

Our Happy Boy!

I haven't cute his hair with the exception on straightening up the line on the back of his neck. It is starting to get long around his ears though, so I guess I should trim those up too.
